Barry’s Tribeca: the best place to be on a Friday night! If you’re looking to start your weekend off right, you must take Matthew’s class. This total body workout will leave you feeling strong and ready to take on the world. Matthew’s workout was everything we had hoped for and more. We exhausted every muscle and hit that tread hard. We mean REAL hard. The Tribeca location is smaller compared to other locations and it’s clean. As for the studio itself, it felt a bit more intimate than the Chelsea location: smaller in size but easier to maneuver during transitions.

RUNDOWN

WORKOUT

Expect a total body workout. From challenging endurance runs on the treadmill to snatches, deadlifts, burpees, pushups, squats, and much more, you’ll work your whole body. Rounds are 12 minutes long, and there were two on the treadmill and two on the floor.

For the floor workout, we had heavy dumbbells for the first round and a lighter pair of dumbbells for the second round. We did lots and lots of reps, so choose your heavy weights wisely. For the first round on the treadmill, we stayed at 1.0 incline. We did two sets of endurance sprints that were two minutes each. The second round was even more difficult – we started our incline at 1.0, then went to 3.0, and then sprinted at 5.0. Our recommendation: Pace yo’ self! There was minimal walking although Matthew did allow for an occasional recovery.

INSTRUCTOR

Matthew was sweet with a little side of ripped. His style was balanced and he always maintained a sense of control – it never felt chaotic. We appreciated his detailed instruction and visuals and never felt lost. While his playlist was strong, the music could’ve been a notch louder. Also, we would’ve liked the music to be timed to the sprints. Always helps to give us that extra oomph. That said, Matthew flawlessly executed the class and we left wanting more!

SPACE

The studio is located right outside the E train in Tribeca – very convenient if you are coming from Midtown. The downstairs space is small and there isn’t a lot of room to walk around, especially in the locker rooms. The locker rooms have three showers – and you must try out the Malin + Goetz bath products. If you’re in the mood for a smoothie, try out the Fuel Bar! You’ll need to refuel, believe us.
