Don’t judge a book by it’s cover. In other words don’t be fooled by this floral shop converted to a fitness studio. The space isn’t going to wow you or win you over with love at first site, but sometimes relationships take time to develop. Trust us, this relationship will make you feel the BURN right out of the gate.

If you are looking for the next trendy studio in Boston this place isn’t for you. If you are looking to rub shoulders with Gisele or see the newest lululemon outfits this place isn’t for you. But if you are looking for a good workout, in an intimate neighborhood setting with down to earth people then BURN might be for you.

RUNDOWN

WORKOUT

Burn offers a variety of High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) classes. We signed up for the Circuit Row class which promised us a “total body circuit team challenge combining different workout stations” (say that 10 times fast). For first timers the flow of the class was a little unclear out of the gate but you didn’t have much time to worry. The warm up quickly turned into a full 45 sweaty minutes of constant movement with rowing (water rower), dumbbells, kettlebells and core stations.

INSTRUCTOR

Jonathan Cruz, the instructor, also happens to be the owner. That is always a good sign, you know they will make your experience worth your time. And that he did. He was like a wind up doll. As soon clock hit go he was encouraging, motivating, yelling out commands and circulating the room. It was a good thing because the group needed a little of pep.

SPACE

As we said before and will reiterate again, the space isn’t going to wow you. It feels more like a dance studio than a gym. For a 16 person class there was little room to spread out (and hide) and a few times we had to turn away from the large wall of mirrors so we didn’t see ourselves huffing and puffing. However, there is ample space to shower, use the bathroom, store your belonging and even relax in the lounge.
