If you’re looking for a heated vinyasa studio, Modo Williamsburg is about as good as it gets. You can enter for the first time as a beginner and build a beautiful practice that will leave you stronger, more grounded, and in a better head space every time you walk out the door. The teachers are some of the best the city has to offer, and there’s enough variation in the classes that your practice can be whatever you want it to be here. Modo is a reliable, challenging, feel-great space to get your namaste on.
Modo flow is a vinyasa class that will get your heart rate up and your blood pumping. You’ll build flows from the ground up in the heat, making them more complicated as you go along. This class is great to get a good workout in, but is also incredibly meditative by nature. A majority of the class is spent flowing and exploring standing postures, which makes the floor poses all the more juicy at the end. Great workout for body and soul.
Lindsay is a real gem. With a dance background (sheʼs a Broadway babe, y’all!), she’s all about alignment and is also clearly an athlete. We love her yang yin class because she gets to show both sides of her yoga personality. She really allows the time and space needed to sink into the yin postures, often times incorporating props in pretty amazing ways. In the yang portion of class, she really challenges her students. Her flows were tough, incorporating many postures back to back… but they flowed so well and left us feeling super accomplished. Lindsay is an amazing choice if you have a pretty solid practice and want to get better. Her hands-on adjustments are some of the best and her music is FIRE: James Blake during a yin practice? We think so.
Modo Williamsburg’s brand new space is absolutely beautiful. From the outside, you’ll think youʼre about to enter some well-lit yoga oasis… and once you get inside, you realize itʼs true. The studios are designed for hot yoga: they heat up to perfection and the vents suck the hot air out of the room when it gets too toasty. The lighting is also perfection, and we like nothing more than rainy days because you can hear the rain pelt the roof as you flow. The bathrooms are brand new and beautiful, always clean. Great swag out front.

Josh has amazing energy and a smile that can only be described as dazzling. He is super positive and will be one of the first people at the studio to remember your name! (Plus, he gives great hugs!) His class is light-hearted even in the moments when your legs are shaking and you feel like you could give up. His practice is beautiful and he is more than willing to lend a helping hand to help you get yours where you want it to be.

We knew weʼd like Maddy the minute we saw her, because damn that girlʼs eyebrow game is STRONG! Maddy mixes things up. Though for the most part her flows hit the main poses and nothing crazy happened, she got us into positions in creative and exciting ways. She started us on the floor and got a good stretch in our legs before moving into the flow of class, and did little things along the way so that we didnʼt anticipate what would come next. Extra bonus points: she left plenty of time for juicy savasana.

As a Broadway performer, Randy exudes charisma and awesome energy. His practice is goddamn impressive as he casually presses in to inversions, demonstrating with ease that one day you too could achieve them. He brings really challenging (optional) poses into the studio, so if youʼre looking to be challenged and learn something new, Randy could be your guy. That being said, his class is friendly to everyone, and you will definitely get a great sweat in no matter where you are in your practice. If you’re really lucky, he might sing to you during savasana.

Sarrah is one of our favorite yoga teachers in NYC (you can also check out her classes at Sweat and Woom)! She comes from a theatrical background and exudes charisma into the room in a way that brings us so much joy. She often includes inspirational speeches and real talk in her classes, and she provides amazing hands-on adjustments. Her flows are usually fun, and when she teaches a class with music, she knocks it out of the park every time.
