While there may be plenty of barre studios in NYC, barre3 stands out. Why? Honestly, they do it better. Class is fun and fast-paced. Plus, all moves can be modified depending on fitness level, injuries, etc., so everyone can do them. This Portland fitness export gets an A+ in our book. Our only critique: we wish there were more locations in Manhattan and Brooklyn.
barre3 classes follow a standard structure: class starts with a warm up (expect toe taps, lunges and planks). Next, it’s leg-focused barre work. The middle is combo work: a cardio blast that combines arms and leg movements. Next comes seat work (often referred to as “booty work”), followed by abs and a quick cool down/stretch time. All in all, it’s an awesome 60-minute workout.
Dino is the studio manager and one kick ass instructor. His energy is infectious and his music is on point. Class is difficult (there’s no chance you’re skating by with this instructor) but it’s SO worth it. From start to finish, it’s a blast—albeit a sweaty blast that will leave you super sore the next day. No surprise, his class is consistently full, so book a few days ahead—particularly if you’re looking to secure a spot after work or on the weekend.
The West Village location is located above Liquiteria—super convenient if you want to grab a post-class juice. The lobby may be small (it’s the West Village, what do you expect?) but it is immaculately appointed. There are lockers for personal belongings, plus two changing rooms and a single bathroom, each of which is stocked with pre- and post-workout essentials like tampons, lotion, hand sanitizer, spray deodorant and face wipes. There’s a water cooler (refillable water bottles are encouraged) and a cell phone charging station. You can also buy super chic workout wear in the front.
