Just one year ago, the Title Boxing franchise entered the super competitive (and some might say oversaturated) Boston fitness scene. While we waited to see if they would sink or swim, the franchise did their research and maybe downed some Wheaties, recently expanding to a second Title Boxing on Newbury Street in Back Bay. With Boxing and Kickboxing being the only two classes from which to choose, don’t let that deter you. These full-body workouts will knock you on your ass but still have you signing up for another round. Try it out, we promise you won’t be disappointed.
The hour-long classes at Title Boxing are the same: eight rounds of work, each round three minutes long. You’re given one round of rest between rounds, but don’t be fooled. It’s less couch-surfing and a side of Netflix, and more active “rest” packed full of squats, lunges and jumping jacks. Our entire body got hammered, and while we loved every minute of it, we thought a kickboxing class would include a bit more…well, kicking. Punching was really the name of the game, holding us back from unleashing our inner Chuck Norris (he’s always bust out). Still, we’re impressed that by the end of class our muscles burned and our Lululemon dripped with sweat.
This is our second class with Aaron. If you read our initial review (and you should–find it here!), he set a high bar for himself but proved that bar could be raised. Aaron brought his A-game, a mix of high-energy, passion and knowledge that radiates off him and can be felt by everyone in the room. He did another awesome job of explaining and demoing every punch and kick in a clear concise manner. We always knew exactly what to do, and he made sure to assist our form and push us just a little bit harder.
Title Boxing is located on the lower level of Newbury Street, slightly hidden, but near TJ Maxx and across the street from lululelmon. As a franchise, the equipment, color scheme and retail areas are standard from location to location. In comparison to the first location, the only thing different about Newbury Street is the layout. At just 100 square feet larger, it somehow feels much more open and provides a great area for socializing before and after class.

If you’re looking for a workout that packs a punch, look no further than Matt’s Box 60 class at Title Boxing – Newbury Street. He had us moving so fast through plyos and heavy bag combos that we hardly had time to glance at the countdown clock for each of the eight rounds. When the bell tolled for the final round, we were down for the count.
Matt was all about business, with little time for small talk. Given the intensity of this class, we appreciated the thorough warm-up that he took us through, consisting of plyos and shadow boxing. His bag combinations were intricate at times, but Matt coached each round in a way that gradually built upon the previous combo. Regardless of whether you’re a beginner or a regular, we found that this style of coaching made it easy to follow along, but rest assured, that’s the only thing about his class that was easy!
