We ventured down to the Financial District on a beautiful Sunday, thinking it would be eerily quiet, but the streets and the Physique class were hopping! This is Physique’s newest location in NYC and they nailed it. Light floods into the two-studio space and instantly puts you in a happy mood – despite the fact that you know you’re about to get your ass kicked.
When selecting a barre class in NYC, there are almost as many options as there are pizza joints. Physique 57 is certainly at the top of the list. The instructors are top notch, each class follows the same fast-paced pattern, and the studios have everything you need. Physique 57 is a true full body workout, targeting arms, thighs, seat and of course abs. The workout is challenging, but you get the hang of it quickly. Each workout starts with anywhere from 10-15 minutes of arm work. Just when you feel as though your arms are going to fall off, it’s on to the next move and before you know it, you’re moving on to a quick set of pushups and plank work. The heart of the workout comes when you move to the barre and get into the thigh and seat work. Your legs and booty will be on fire as you do two sets of each, but the good news is that there are a few quick stretch breaks in between to get you through it. When you get to the last three ab sets, you can see the light at the end of the tunnel, and it’s worth fighting through.
Word of wisdom: you need to wear grip socks in each class so make sure to pack them if you have them. If you don’t own a pair, you can pick some up at the front desk.
Lindsay is a burst of energy. She brings the heat to her classes and motivates you to give your all. She introduces herself to each class member at the start of class and remembers everyone’s name throughout. If you don’t naturally hit each move with perfect form ;), she is there to adjust. Her music was on point.
When we think of FIDI we imagined a dark studio in an old building a la The Dark Night Rises. We are happy to report that we could not have been more wrong. The studio location, which opened last year, is a clean, tranquil oasis that is conveniently located near multiple subways. The studio has two spaces which are large and flooded with natural light. The check-in desk has grip socks if you leave yours at home, water, hair ties etc. If you arrive a few minutes early and are in need of a workout wardrobe refresh, the studio has a great selection of tanks, spandex and sweatshirts. The locker room is one of the biggest we’ve seen equipped with showers, blowdryers, lotion, and towels – everything you need!
