The 57th Street Physique 57 location is perfect for pre- or post-work (or during, if you’re a badass) if your office is in Midtown. We expected the showering sitch to be crowded, but the locker room is big enough that it was no problem! We took this class before work and felt like a million bucks after. This location and Lauren are worth getting out of bed or skipping your after-work glass of wine for!
When selecting a barre class in NYC, there are almost as many options as there are pizza joints. Physique 57 is certainly at the top of the list. The instructors are top notch, each class follows the same fast-paced pattern, and the studios have everything you need. Physique 57 is a true full body workout, targeting arms, thighs, seat and of course abs. The workout is challenging, but you get the hang of it quickly. Each workout starts with anywhere from 10-15 minutes of arm work. Just when you feel as though your arms are going to fall off, it’s on to the next move and before you know it, you’re moving on to a quick set of pushups and plank work. The heart of the workout comes when you move to the barre and get into the thigh and seat work. Your legs and booty will be on fire as you do two sets of each, but the good news is that there are a few quick stretch breaks in between to get you through it. When you get to the last three ab sets, you can see the light at the end of the tunnel, and it’s worth fighting through.
Word of wisdom: you need to wear grip socks in each class so make sure to pack them if you have them. If you don’t own a pair, you can pick some up at the front desk.
Lauren’s smile is contagious. It’s hard to imagine smiling when your legs feel like they are going to explode, but somehow Lauren makes this happen in her classes. She takes the time to remember everyone’s name and is very diligent in correcting and adjusting everyone in the class. Despite the class being tough, her music and instruction was very upbeat. We’ll definitely be back to Lauren’s class atPhysique 57!
Physique’s 57th Street location is a bit more cramped than the others, but there is still ample room to change, shower and blow dry. This location has two showers, a locker room and two studios. The front desk staff is great and, if you work in Midtown, you cannot beat the convenience!
