We have found that Pilates comes in many different forms and styles so we didn’t quite know what to expect when we signed up for New York Pilates. NYP revolves around their Reformer. Our class (Arms, Abs, Ass) was full of resistance movements on the Reformer targeting three focus area and using props (bands, weights and balls). All of this made the workout unique. The West 3rd/Greenwich Village location is a not-so-hidden gem one floor below the busy streets of the iconic village. The studio is one big welcoming room and the staff was awesome. Definitely worth checking out!
The class started with a leg series using a heavy spring resistance. We grabbed our rubber band and continued to work our legs and arms. After we tossed the band, we moved to seat work and capped it off with some tough abs and obliques!
We highly recommend a visit to Meg Broome! She has just the right mix of spunk, humor and grit. The Arms, Abs, Ass class that we took with her equally targeted all three areas and included some broader leg work. She started the class off by asking what specific areas we wanted to focus on, and we love when we are able to give input and direction into the class!
When we think of Greenwich Village, dive bars and late night pizza come to mind, but the West 3rd Location of New York Pilates had us rethinking the ‘hood. Expect to walk into a tranquil, clean candle-filled room when you descend down the elevator to the basement. A friendly front desk staff greets you as you walk into the large open room. Half of the room is dedicated to classes and has 10 Reformers. The other half of the room is sectioned off for private Pilates sessions. There are no showers at this location, but there’s ample space to stash your stuff, as well as two unisex bathrooms.
